Ex Day: Better or worse than Sweetest Day?

Posted October 15, 2008

1-800-FLOWERS.com and CBS have joined forces to create yet another holiday: Ex Day on October 16. The campaign is promoting CBS’s new comedy series, The Ex List, and a specialty Ex Bouquet from 1-800-FLOWERS.com. On The Ex List, the character Bella Bloom, played by Elizabeth Reaser, is a flower shop owner who, according to a psychic, must go back through all her exes, as she has already dated “The One.”

According to a study from Wakefield Research and quoted by CBS and 1-800-FLOWERS.com, 39% of people feel they let “The One” get away and more than 40% say they still have romantic feelings for an ex. Now, only two days before “Sweetest Day,” people can re-connect with an old flame via flowers on Ex Day.

So far, The Hollywood Reporter and Crain’s New York Business have reported on the new holiday. No word yet if Hallmark has started making Ex Day cards.

Lights, Camera, PR Action

Posted September 16, 2008

While in Los Angeles last week for PRWeek’s Entertainment and Media Roundtable, I also attended a PRWeek panel, discussing PR in the entertainment industry. The panel, moderated by PRWeek’s Keith O’Brien, included Susan Fleishman, EVP of corporate communications for Warner Bros; Chris Ender, SVP of communications for CBS; and David Stamper, SVP, partner, and GM of Fleishman-Hillard Los Angeles. A recap of the panel is after the jump.

Russert replacement speculation abounds

Posted June 16, 2008

Out of respect for Tim Russert’s family and friends, aren’t hinting at who they’re considering to host Meet the Press, the leading public affairs show that Russert hosted since 1991, after his sudden death last Friday.

Yet speculation abounds among media critics and reporters. Check out the roundup on the next page: Read more »

McClellan, Rather chat on pro-war marketing

Posted June 6, 2008

Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan chatted with former CBS anchor Dan Rather June 4 at the 92nd St. Y in New York. The political world’s latest author-at-the-center-of-attention mentioned a few interesting tidbits about his role as press at the White House, and the way the executive branch’s staff manipulated the media in the run-up to the Iraq War, and his own personal experiences working in the Bush Administration. CBS Public Eye, em, shuts

Posted January 3, 2008

TVNewswer is reporting that CBS’ omnbudsblog, Public Eye, will cease operations. No confirmation on Public Eye, yet, but it’s likely to come.

A spokesperson for CBS Interactive tells TVNewser, “We weren’t able to find a sustainable business model for Public Eye. We are exploring ways to maintain a similar spirit of public discourse by engaging the CBSNews.com audience and building a community around multiple voices.”

Yeah… Sustainable business model? Was I the only one who thought the point of the blog was to build credibility for its news operations, so that more people would frequent their broadcast programs/Web site/etc. It’s not like a news criticism/self-editorial site is going to get Best Buy as a sponsor.
