And the backlash continues

With the holiday season just around the corner, this is not good news for retailers and toy manufacturers.

More than three quarters of US consumers said they plan on boycotting toys made in China this holiday season, according to a poll. Of the nearly 1,000 consumers polled 75.8% said they wouldn’t be purchasing Chinese-made toys. The findings are obviously a direct result of the numerous high profile toy recalls recently made of toys produced in China that contained either lead paint or small magnets.

When asked about their intentions for holiday spending, 49.8% said they were planning to spend about the same on gifts as they did last year; 31.1% said they planned to spend a little or a lot less; and 18.3 percent said they planned to spend a little or a lot more.
These results were in line with some of the other retail surveys and forecasts on consumer spending during the holiday season. The National Retail Federation this week said U.S. shoppers plan to spend 3.7% more on holiday-related items than they did in 2006, almost half the 7.2 percent planned increase last year, according to .
