Brian Tierney, part two?
The AP is that Tom Carroll and Doug Turner, who head the Albuquerque-based advertising and PR firm DW Turner, have put a bid in to buy the Albuquerque Tribune from the E.W. Scripps Company. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
On one hand, Scripps has threatened to shutter the Tribune in the very near future if it doesn’t find a buyer. On the other hand, the last Ad/PR guy who bought a paper, Brian Tierney in Philadelphia, has garnered decidedly mixed reviews. Plenty of journalists themselves are not comfortable with the “PR man as publisher” concept. This will be an interesting one to watch.
