Internet users are now spending more time online visiting news and entertainment sites, and less checking e-mail, according to an analysis released by the Online Publishers Association. People spend about half their time visiting content sites — a 37 % increase from 2003. But activities like e-mail and online shopping have declined since 2003.

A release accompanying the analysis notes some of the main factors - like better Web content and social networks - behind this shift.
