A weekend ‘Schlep’ for Obama
Supporters of the Obama presidential campaign continued to show their ability to innovate on a grassroots level this weekend with The Great Schlep. Knowing that Florida will play a critical role - again - in the election, the campaign decided to use its youth base to win over a group it’s having trouble connecting to: elderly Jewish Floridians. So, over Columbus Day weekend, Jewish grandkids were urged to ’schlep’ to Florida to convince their relations to vote Obama. The campaign uses a by comedian Sarah Silverman who says that grandma is scared of Obama’s Muslim-sounding name. With a few expletives thrown in, Silverman urges her audience to go to Florida to convince their grandparents otherwise. The online drive, created by the Jewish Council for Education & Research, gained coverage in a number of publications.
