Time to make the trans-fat free ‘Donuts’

Dunkin’ Donuts has announced that it will join the growing list of food companies known for fatty foods looking to portray a healthier image by “largely” eliminating trans fat from its menu, the reports.

The company said its menu will be “zero grams trans fat” by October 15 in its 5,400 restaurants in 34 states. It plans to announce today that it has developed an alternative cooking oil and reformulated more than 50 of its menu items. It said it is not looking to position its doughnut as health food. Joe Scafido, Dunkin’s chief creative and innovation officer, said the goal was to “create a doughnut that was better.”

Baskin Robbins, a unit of Dunkin’ Brands, also plans to be zero grams trans fat by the first of the new year. Last year we covered KFC’s move to cut out trans fat.
